A large group of residents and activists joined the weekly demonstration against the Wall in Beit Ummar. The group marched from the center of the village towards the fence surrounding that is known as "special security zone", located about 100 meters from the adjacent settlement, Karni Tzur, on private Palestinian agricultural land.

Although settlers are not allowed to stay in this zone, a group of them was present when the demonstration arrived near the fence. They shortly attacked the protesters with stones .Demonstrators asked the soldiers to take away the settlers, however, instead the army tried to disperse the Palestinian demonstration. Settlers however remained in the field and increased stone throwing. They hit a soldier, as well as a AFP newswire photographer. He was severely wounded in his head and required stitches. Following these events the army further intensified its assault on the demonstration with large amounts of tear gas and shock grenades.
