Hundreds of Palestinians, Israelis and internationals marched in Bil’in to commemorate the killing of Jawaher Abu Rahmah and protest Israel’s separation wall and land annexation in the village. Jawaher Abu Rahmah died last December from severe tear-gas inhalation. She was the 36-year-old sister of Bassam Abu Rahmah, who was killed in 2009 when Israeli soldiers fired a high velocity tear gas canister directly at his chest.

As people were gathering in the center of the village for commemoration speeches, the army was already shooting tear gas at a group of local youth near the Wall. Shooting intensified as the march approached the Wall, chanting and singing. Shortly after the march arrived to the Abu Lamon grove soldiers crossed the barrier in Jeeps, shooting tear-gas and rubber coated bullets directly at the demonstrators, from very close range, in breach of the army's own open-fire regulations. Last month, Mustafa Tamimi was killed in the neighboring village of Nabi Saleh when a tear gas canister was shot directly to his head from a driving jeep. The army also shot live ammunition in the air. Three protesters were injured, one from a rubber coated bullet, and two from tear-gas canisters.

After approximately 20 minutes, the army returned to its position on the other side of the Wall and continued shooting tear-gas in very large amounts. The demonstration slowly dispersed, and protesters assembled in the center of the village to join a commemoration ceremony.
