Protesters holding a banner in solidarity with Rachel Corrie and Tristan Anderson
This week's protest in Ni'ilin was held in close proximity to the second anniversary to Tristan Anderson's critical injury, that took place on March 13th, 2009 during a demonstration in the village. Anderson was hurt by a US made high velocity tear-gas projectile, which was shot by Israeli Border Police officers directly at his head from close range, causing serious injuries, from which Anderson is still recovering even today.
The protest was also held in memory of Rachel Corry, on the 8th anniversary to her killing in Rafah, Gaza. She was ran-over on March 16th, 2003, by an American made Caterpillar D9 bulldozer driven by Israeli soldiers. Corrie was killed while trying to prevent house demonstrations near the Gazan-Egyptian border. The protesters carried pictures of the two and a big banner denouncing Israel's treatment of them.
Approximately twenty minutes after protesters arrived to the Wall, soldiers crossed it through a huge metal gate and chased protesters, firing tear gas projectiles. Less than an hour later the soldiers retreated back to the wall. No injuries were recorded.
