Residents of alMa'asara marched today, joined by Israeli and international supporters, towards their lands that are designated to be left separated behind the wall once it is complete. The march was of smaller attendance than usual because of Ramadan and the intense August heat.
As it reached the main road, soldiers lined up to block the peaceful march from continuing towards the lands. After a short time, in which demonstrators stood at the junction chanting anti Occupation slogans, soldiers began throwing concussion grenades and then tear-gas in a completely unprovoked move to disperse the gathering. An American activist suffered burn wounds to his hand as a result of this attack, after a concussion grenade hit him in the hand.
The soldiers then moved to detain two Israeli demonstrators for no apparent reason. One of those detained was released immediately, while the other was arrested and taken to the police station. He was then released a few hours later on the condition that he does not enter the village for 15 days.
