Approximately 80 men, women and children joined the weekly demonstration against the settlement and confiscation of land in Nabi Saleh, which this week marked popular solidarity with striking political detainees in Israeli prisons. Since demonstrations in the village began, almost two years ago, the Israeli army has carried 80 protest related arrests in the village, whose population amounts only to 550 people. Over a dozens are currently incarcerated.

The march set out from the center of the village to head towards the contested spring, near the settlement, which settlers have been trying to take over. Large forces of Border Police and Military awaited demonstrators on the road leading from the village to the spring and opened fire on the march as soon as it came into sight.
The soldiers fired tear-gas projectiles directly at the crowed, injuring three women that way. Shortly after, the army has moved on to use the “Skunk” (water canon shooting bursts of foul smelling liquid), and rubber coated bullets. Following the attack on the demonstration, clashed ensued between the soldiers and local youth, during which two young men were injured by rubber bullets.
Confrontations continued until nightfall, when the soldiers finally left the village.
