Nil’in marked three years of demonstration with a protest against the Separation Barrier and the Occupation. Hundreds gather near the Separation wall after mid day prayers for a demonstration. The protesters were attacked with tear gas and sound grenades. No one was injured in the demo.
Over the past three years, five unarmed demonstrators have been killed by Israeli crowd control measures. Of the five killed, one was a child and two were aged 18. In 2008, American activist Tristan Anderson was shot in the head with a high velocity tear gas canister and permanently paralyzed.
Israel has built a section of concrete eight meter high wall in the village of Ni’ilin in an attempt to crush the demonstration. This has not happen in other villages that are actively resisting the wall expect Al Walaja where construction has recently begun. Villages have sworn to keep their unarmed resistance alive as long as the occupation continues to control the Palestinian people.
