Weekly demonstrations in Kufr Qaddum Persist. Residents of Kufer Qaddum in the northern West Bank are protesting land grab by settlers and severe violations of their freedom of movement. Settlers of the adjacent settlement Kedumin have been long taking over privately owned Palestinian land in a manner that even the Israeli civil Administration called "theft". Moreover, since the beginning of the second Intifada the main road leading to the town has been blocked by the army, largely impeding transport in and out of town. After making legal claims in Israeli courts, which have been unsuccessful thus far, the village decided to claim its rights through protest.

Dozens joined the protests this week. The demonstration attempted to reach the agricultural lands confiscated by settler, proceeding from the center of the village to the main road leading to Kedumin. Protesters made speeches and also burned tires on the main road.
The army used massive amounts of tear gas against the demonstrators, including shooting canisters directly at protesters, in breach of the army's own open fire regulations. Last week, Mustafa Tamimi, a resident of Nabi Saleh, was killed by a tear gas canister shot right at him from close range. Fortunately, no one was injured in Kfur Qaddum this week. After an hour of viciously attacking the village with tear gas, the soldiers invaded the village in jeeps.
