How to Plan a Fishing Trip With the Whole Family

March 11, 2018 By Amanda Mitchelle

Are you looking forward to a fishing trip of a lifetime? Well, planning is the key. After a long week at work, all you want to do is to spend time with your family. Taking a fishing trip is one of the best ways to bond with your family. Whether you want to go on a vacation or a random weekend out with the family, a fishing trip still stands out. Imagine having your whole family out in the water with fishing rods and tackles!

As you go out on a fishing trip, you need to make sure that it remains memorable to the entire family. Therefore, everything has to be planned out perfectly. However, there is always so much to plan and it is advisable to start planning early so that you do not leave anything out. The following are some of the things to consider while planning for your fishing trip.

Cost of the trip

The first factor that you need to consider is how much you are willing to spend on the trip. Family trips can be quite expensive but as you plan, decide what kind of a trip you want. This will help determine how much you will spend on the trip. If you want to save some money by setting up a camp, it would still be fine. However, if you can afford a cabin, then it is advisable to go for it as cabins offer more privacy than camps.

Saving money while on a trip should also be in your plan. There is no point in extravagantly spending on a family trip then later come back home broke. You can opt to do your own cooking or even carry frozen food with you. This will greatly save your finances.

Species to target

Before you get on board, you need to decide which species of fish you would like to go for. Discuss this with your family and get their opinion. Some people like trout while there are those that simply adore bass fisherman. Deciding the fish species is also a key in choosing the location. It narrows down your destinations thereby helping in planning.

Catching the perfect fish may come in handy when you pick the right destination. Worry not, there are so many places you can go to in angling for your perfect fish!

Get your gear ready

After knowing the targeted species and deciding the location, the next step is to ensure you have the proper gear. Make sure you have a proper rod, a good reel and some bait that are best for your targeted species.

There is proper and affordable gear out there, you just need to know which ones are the best and voila, you are good to go!

Get in the water and have fun

If you are fishing in a stream or a river, a boat may not be necessary but if you are fishing on a lake, a boat is mandatory. You can rent a boat or even decide to take a chartered trip. Keep in mind that fishing is fun! Catching a fish is even more fun. Sometimes when you are on the trip, whether you catch a fish does not matter. Enjoy being with your family and bond.

In conclusion, family trips are meant to loosen you up a little. Fishing is one of the best outdoor activities that a family could do together. It brings people together!

Basketball Vs Football – Which Between the Two Should Your Kid Play More?

October 29, 2017 By Amanda Mitchelle

Basketball Vs Football

Two particular games that are in high demand by kids nowadays include football and basketball. Each kid would certainly love to be associated with either.

And to deepen their love for each, see to it they have either football gloves or basketball hoops for kids. But which game between the two is really fit and perfect for your kid to play more?

As with any other game, both sports have proved quite effective in enhancing teamwork, social skills, self-confidence, health, discipline, sportsmanship, you name it. They are amazingly great. Only that a thin difference you are yet to find out will reveal to you which between the two your kid really deserves to play more.

Coordination

Basketball calls for more coordination compared to football. In fact, soon as kids start playing basketball, their hand-eye coordination begins to get better. What this means is that the brain will work really harder resulting in plenty of good and wise action from the kid. And with every move taken, the kid will continue to get smarter.

Football, on the other hand, majors on strength and less on coordination, which in the end might fail to develop your kid’s mental skills and only work at their physique.

Speed

By now, we all know that the continuous nature by which the basketball sport is played gives it an edge over football, which is somehow a slow paced game. When combined with everyday practice and a superb basketball hoop for kids, the speed with which the kid uses to effectively play the basketball game will eventually go up assisting them to be sharp and fast thinkers in the end.

Diversity

Each player in a football game has their defined and fixed role. For instance, those in the defence are expected to exclusively play their defence roles. Goalkeepers, with their football gloves on, are expected to guard the goal post. Same also applies to the strikers.

In basketball, however, every player is part of each defined role and can play more than one task. All of the players matter. That means the game requires more attention and a variety of skills. When playing such a game, the analyzation of the kid, together with the ability to explore their potential will be enhanced.

Lengthy Career

Recently, there has been rising cases of concussions amongst football players. In essence, if your kid wants to pursue it as a career, chances are high such injuries might make their journey short-lived. With basketball, though, you can easily step out on the court or wherever other places you’ve fixed those basketball hoops for kids, and not worry an inch about getting injured, even after several plays.

Gender Neutral

For a long time, football has been understood by many, particularly women, to be man’s favourite pastime and sport. Unfortunately, few of the schools that have it still discriminate it in favour of boys. So in case you have a female kid, she will most likely not enjoy the sport as opposed to how boys do.

But looking at basketball, it’s safe to say that it’s largely played by both genders, from elementary level all the way to professional leagues. What’s particularly interesting is how females are able to shine in the game and reach a scale similar to that of their counterparts. It’s simply the best game for all your kids

Final thoughts

Worldwide, basketball game has proved active in raising the stature of life of kids. It simply has a lot to offer besides the obvious benefits any sport would offer. And looking at all we’ve mentioned, it’s pretty obvious why from today, you should install those basketball hoops for kids and let your kid play basketball more.

The Relationship Between Eye Color and Personality Traits such as Intelligence

July 28, 2017 By Amanda Mitchelle

eye colour personality

Research suggests that eye color and iris pattern of the eye have a direct correlation to certain personality traits as well as intelligence and health conditions.

Doctors being able to get indications about a person’s health from their eye color is common knowledge however being able to predict a person’s intelligence is a rather new phenomenon.

Several prominent organizations from across the world have conducted studies into this idea of a correlation between eye color/iris patterns and intelligence.

Matt Larsson of Orebro University in Sweden is one such researcher who has concluded that their certain personality traits can be associated with certain eye colors. A group of Czech researches also conducted a similar study in relation to whether a person’s eye color can determine whether they would be better at dominating over others.

How Variations in Eye Color are Perceived

Worldwide the most common eye color is brown with grey and blue eyes coming up second and green as the least common eye color while Europeans are found to have the greatest variation in eye color.

A study conducted by CyberPulse in Los Angeles found that 34% of women aged between 16 and 35 believed that people with brown eyes are intelligent, kind and sexy whole those with blue eyes are thought to be sweet but only 7% of them believed people with blue eyes are intelligent.

Eye Colors and What They Indicate

eye colour chart

Babies usually have blue eyes at first however they darken as melanin builds up in the iris. Eyes with the least melanin appear grey or blue while moderate amounts of melanin produce green eyes and those with the highest amounts of melanin are brown or black.

Because production of testosterone is in direct competition with the hormones generally associated with high intelligence factors, the dark eyed people have a greater capacity for physical activities and have higher response times. People with blue eyes also tend to have a devotion to noble causes and self-sufficiency, two traits that are common among people with high IQs.

Blue eyed people are found to exceed expectations when it comes to strategizing and completing self-paced activities such as academic sciences.

Brown-eyed people are known to be outgoing and vivacious with a kind and loyal personality that loves to engage with new people however there are strongly devoted to the people in their lives that they consider special.

Hazel-eyed people are a determined and imaginative bunch who are strong in the face of adversity however they are know to be rather selfish at times.

Green eyes are the rarest of the eye colors. Green-eyed people carry themselves with an air of unspoken self-sufficiency and are known to be patient and very skilled at controlling their own emotions. They also project sex appeal and perform well under pressure.

Grey eyes are a sign of a person who conforms to society’s standards while being quiet and deceptive.

No two people have the exact eye color or iris pattern. These traits are as unique for every person as their fingerprints. Matt Larsson from Sweden took the study a step farther and got more research by counting the crypts and furrows in his subjects’ eyes and came to the conclusion that a low number of crypts was an indication of warmth, a tender heart and general positive emotions while those that have distinct furrows tended towards impulsive behavior.

A Pinch of Salt

Having seen the information recorded from these studies some brown-eyed people may start to feel inferior while their blue-eyed counterparts now believe themselves to be certified geniuses even if they can’t average a C on their report cards.

Scientists such as Joanna Rowe, a professor at the University of Louisville went on to defend their findings by saying “It is just observed. There is no scientific answer.”

This research makes one think of a similar study conducted by a schoolteacher in Iowa decades ago. She separated her class of all-white third-graders according to eye color, placing those with blue eyes in one group and those with brown eyes in another. She then told each group that they were inferior. Those in the brown-eyed group responded by exhibiting signs of self-loathing and their average grades dropped dramatically. They performed much better after being told that they were in fact superior.

Several years later a social psychology professor at Stanford University named Claude Steele went on to prove in a more scientific manner that the great rift in test scores between white and black students was a not due to genetic differences but rather because people who have been stereotyped their whole lives subconsciously act according to that stereotype.

Taking Professor Steele’s findings into consideration, the findings that relate blue eyes to high IQs don’t hold much weight. Blue eyes only appear in people with Caucasian lineage, especially so among those who can trace their bloodline back to Scandinavia and just about all of the researchers who conducted studies relating intelligence to blue eyes are Caucasian which leads many to question the reliability of these studies. They believe that these professors should have taken the time to address the great potential for self-fulfilling stereotypes in their findings as well as the strong whiff of racism.

While there does seem to be blue-eyed trend among many of history’s greatest minds such as Marie Curie, Nikola Tesla, and Stephen Hawking it does not mean that one must have blue eyes to be an intellectual success. Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Albert Einstein all had brown eyes and they are also considered among the greatest minds there ever where.

This goes to show that while there may be a trend towards higher intelligence quotients among blue-eyed people it is not the only factor that should be considered. As far back as ancient Greece, they believed that a short big toe was a sure sign of heightened intelligence, face-readers will tell you that people with a broad foreheads are intelligent thinkers and contrary to stereotypical beliefs, some studies have found that women with large busts generally tend to be more intelligent.

The 5 Cons of Living in a Rural Area

March 30, 2017 By Amanda Mitchelle

There are pros and cons to living in a rural area. Some of the pros are; the environment is very quiet, the crime rate is lower in rural areas, and cost of living is cheaper than in cities.

However, there are also a lot of cons. In this article, we shall take a look at five of the cons of living in a rural area.

1. Poor Television Signals

One of the cons of living in a rural area is that you may not get TV signals clearly. For many people who live in a rural area, they find it difficult to catch the signals of their favorite television stations.

For instance, some people living in rural areas have to erect high poles, to which they attach their television antenna. This is because their rural area may be located far away from the television transmitters and the coverage may be weak. (we recommend SavantMAG for choosing a good tv antenna)

2. You Need a Lot of Tools

A rural area lacks repair shops. In addition, there are very few handy-men available in these areas. Therefore, one has to learn how to repair things for oneself. For example, you may need to repair your own bicycle when it gets spoilt. You may also need to repair machines and equipment you use to work. A person living in a rural area, as a result, has to have a lot of tools at his disposal.

Specifically, you may need to have a screwdriver set at your disposal. Even better, you will need a little skill in using these tools, else having them will be nothing but a sheer waste of time.

3. It is Far From Civilization

A rural area is normally located at quite a distance from a major city. A typical rural area lacks a lot of amenities and conveniences of modern-day living that cities enjoy. Some of them lack shops and stores. Others lack good roads, or telephone facilities. Some of them too have poor communication facilities, restaurants, stadiums, and cinemas.

As a result, life in a rural area can be very boring. You can get up and not know what to do with yourself. If you do not find something to occupy yourself with, you will naturally feel bored and despondent.

4. Fewer Jobs

A typical rural area does not have big factories. There are also no big industries in these areas. This means there are fewer jobs available than in the urban areas. The main job that is done in many rural areas is farming.

In other areas, young people engage in petty trading, or sell in small shops. The lack of formal employment has over time led to the vicious cycle of rural-urban migration.

5. Education

Many rural areas lack good schools. They do not have very well trained teachers. In addition, the teachers who teach in these schools are normally not motivated to give their best and as we know, the absence of incentives to work leads to poorer education quality in these areas.

Some of these incentives include house rent, school trips and excursions, just to name but a few. As these are meant to add more value to class work, children learning in rural areas find it difficult to relate real-life experiences to what they learn in class.

Benefits of a Bath Pillow to Your Overall Health

January 12, 2017 By Amanda Mitchelle

While lying down in a bathtub can help you deal with stress, relax your muscles and make you feel good, resting your neck on the incline of the tub for an extended period can be injurious to your body. And that is the reason concerned experts highly recommend that you invest in a bath pillow.

Find great deals on bath pillows here.

What is a bath pillow and how does it help?

A bath pillow is simply a cushion that is made using water resistant materials. It features suction cups designed to offer better gripping while resting on the incline of your bath tub. Because the soap in your water can make the bathtub slippery and risky, the suction cups are made in a way they can attach to the top part and the wall of your tub. Bath pillows are not only intended to reduce the risks associated with resting your neck on the hard surface of your tub, but also to provide a variety of health benefits.

How will you benefit by adding a bath pillow to your bath tub?

1. Prevent sore back and neck pains

Whether you are in a bathtub, sitting on a chair or standing, a wrong posture can harm your spinal cord resulting in back pain in the long run. One of the primary purposes of a bath pillow is to help reduce stress levels for your spine allowing you to spend more hours in your bath tub. This, in turn, helps reduce the risks of a sore back. Also, a bath pillow is designed in such a way that it offers maximum comfort and better gripping while you are lying on your tub, reducing the risks of neck pains that result from too much pressure.

2. It helps relieves stress

Spending time in a tub filled with hot water can be relaxing, but not when it puts stress on your body.

A combination of hot water and bath pillow adds extra comfort that in turn makes your bathing experience more relaxing and stress relieving.

Also, it offers a fantastic massage experience that in turn helps reduce stress and calms your muscles.

Some researchers also claim that it can help reduce the levels of blood pressure as well as relieve tensions that are vital for healthy living.

3. Help relieve muscle pain

muscle pain

Most probably after long hours of work, you’ll start experiencing muscle pains in various parts of your body. Spending some minutes in a bathtub with a comfortable bath pillow supporting your neck and back helps lower the levels of lactic acids and improves blood flow through your muscles. This helps reduce muscle pain, especially after engaging in an exhausting physical activity.

4. Makes you bathing more comfortable

You can’t spend more time in a bathtub if it makes you uncomfortable. Studies have shown that soaking in a cold or hot water in a bathtub has many health benefits such as relieving skin complications, reducing cold symptoms and calming arthritic pains. And any of these can’t happen, if you just get into your bathtub, take a quick bath and out. Point being, you need to spend more time to experience the benefits, and that is where the bath pillow comes in. A bath pillow allows you to spend more time in your bath tub to enjoy the health benefits associated with soaking in cold, hot or salty water.

As you can see, a bath pillow offers many benefits that are vital to healthy living. Unfortunately, a bath pillow is just like any other cushioning material if you don’t know how to use it. Here is some trick on how to maximize the benefits of a bath pillow.

Tip – If you want to use a bath pillow to create a more relaxing spa experience, first, attach it to your bathtub with the pads as instructed. You can then add some fragrance candles and let your favorite relaxing music play. Lastly, get into your bathtub, rest your body onto the pillow and enjoy.

The bottom line

We all want to spend some relaxing moment in a bathtub filled with warm water. We just want to sit there and close our eyes for the rest of the day. Well, doing this will not only make you recover from a tiring day but is good for your overall health. But why use it if the overall results are neck and back pains?

If you want your bathtub experience to remain fun for the rest of your life, investing on a bath pillow can do you some good. But you don’t have to believe every word you read or hear. Buy one for yourself and find out what you’ve been missing.
